As a person and player character often motivated by pointless revenge, I have always had a soft spot in my heart for the revenant. To quote the Folio, “Under exceptional circumstances, those who have died a violent death may return from beyond the grave to wreak vengeance on their killer.” The sole purpose of the revenant’s existence: wreaking vengeance; it says so again on the next page. That probably means these entities are serious about their revenge.

Notice that his hand has been cut off but is still throttling the victim’s neck. Now that is vengeance wreaked.
